It Is Important to Implement Measures that Mitigate Social Impacts and Fears of the Future

On the eve of May Day the president was interested in the fates of those who could not work for a longer period of time due to the pandemic.

On Friday, 30 April 2021 the president visited several businesses in the gastro, services and retail sectors which had been closed for several months, and stated that everyone she met was looking forward to going back to work and seeing their clients and customers again. She also pointed out that many people had lost a lot. "The income of some people has dropped to such an extent that they would not have been able to survive without help from their families. Others exhausted all of their savings and even fell into debt.  Their experience with state assistance was also varied. Some received it, but it wasn’t enough to ensure a dignified living. Others from various generations and work experience fell through the gaps in the assistance net. But all of them are united by their fear of the future."

The president believes that for various reasons, including the vaccination, the situation will improve markedly. At the same time, she is considering whether it is necessary to compensate for the losses resulting from this period and to provide economic stimulus for development and modernization, particularly in the affected sectors. She has spoken with the relevant government members regarding measures which must also be implemented to mitigate the social impacts and fear of the future. "I would like to thank everyone for their honest work which has contributed to the development of Slovakia. And on the occasion of tomorrow’s holiday, I wish you dignified working conditions with proper remuneration, not to mention joy from your work.
