Kiska Attends a Meeting of V4 and Germany

The newly sworn-in Slovak President Andrej Kiska attended a ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the events that had led to democratic and social transformation in Hungary at an invitation by Hungarian President János Áder.

Andrej Kiska agreed to help Ukraine during bilateral talks with János Áder, and with the Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski afterwards. “We have expressed a great deal of willingness to help Ukraine overcome this unfavourable situation, because all of our countries want Ukraine to join our part of Europe. The matter is all the more important for those of us who share borders with Ukraine,” Andrej Kiska said.

After a joint meeting of the V4 Group partners and Germany, the presidents also discussed cuts in gas supplies from Ukraine. Kiska described the talks in Budapest, mainly focused on social issues, as very friendly and informal. He said that after having visited the Czech Republic he would visit Poland in July. With the Polish President, Kiska also discussed possibilities to hold more informal meetings at Slovakia-Poland borders.

Apart from the ceremony and a working lunch, the Slovak President attended informal meetings with the Czech and German presidents.
