The president in Ljubljana: Slovenia can be an inspiration for us in many ways

President Čaputová visited Slovenia on Thursday 14 October 2021.

The official visit of the president was based on an invitation from President Borut Pahor.  Immediately upon her arrival, the presidents spoke about the development of bilateral relations as well as the current situation in the context of the pandemic and coping with its consequences thanks to the Recovery Plan and the process of the entry of the Western Balkan countries to the EU.
Other topics for discussion included measures related to environmental protection and the climate crisis.  The president’s delegation included representatives of the local governments of Bratislava, Košice, Žilina and Trnava, who participated in a workshop organized by authorities in Ljubljana related to the circular economy and the climate adaptation of cities.  They also accompanied the president on a visit to the regional centre for waste treatment, the most modern plant for the treatment of mixed and biological waste in Europe. 

The president visited Triglav National Park, which can serve as an inspiration for Slovakia in terms of the sustainable development of tourism and environmental and biodiversity conservation. She was also received by Igor Zorčič, the Chairman of the Slovenian Parliament and Prime Minister Janez Janša.
